Bond will remain at $3 million dollars for man accused of murdering Madeline Pantoja

MIDLAND, Texas (KOSA) - A Judge has denied a reduced bond for Mario Chacon, who is accused of murdering Madeline Pantoja. Chacon’s bond will remain at $3 million dollars. This is according to lawyers for Madeline Pantoja’s family.

Thursday, a Midland County Judge heard from the lawyer of Mario Chacon, who asked that Chacon’s bond be reduced from $3 million dollars to 750,000 dollars.

Steve Herschberger, Chacon’s lawyer, argued that Chacon should be allowed to bond out through the Midland County Pre-Trial Program.

The judge has reviewed the evidence presented in court for a day before making a decision.

Over 100 of Madeline’s friends and family gathered in front of the courthouse before the hearing to protest the bond being lowered.

Saturday, May 20, 2023, Midland Police found remains, identified as Madeline Pantoja, in the area approximately 3 miles east of County Road 190 and County Road 1160.

Shortly after finding the remains MPD detectives arrested Mario Juan Chacon, 24, for the charge of murder in connection with the death of Madeline Pantoja.
