ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) -UPDATE: According to a release from the Odessa Police Department, Nimitz Middle School teacher Brittany Sawyer has been safely found.


UPDATE: According to the Odessa Police Department Sawyer was a teacher at Nimitz Middle School.

OPD Chief Mike Gerke said that prior to her disappearance Sawyer had given all materials that belonged to ECISD to her landlord who then returned the items to the district on May 2nd.

ECISD confirms that Sawyer is still employed at the school and the district released the following statement:

Sawyer had called out of work for two weeks, ECISD police performed a welfare check on May 4th but no one was there.

According to Chief Gerke, ECISD police contacted OPD and filed a missing person report on May 10th.

ECISD contacted Sawyers’s family but they said they had not heard from her.

“Just again, please understand, we do take these things very seriously, and we do handle a number of these every week, and the vast majority of these things work out very well, and the ones that don’t work out in the short term, we still take very seriously and there is a lead detective assigned to this case right now, and she has been at it all day,” said Chief Gerke.

The Odessa Police Department is asking for the public’s help in finding 35-year-old Brittany Sawyer. She was last seen on April 30th in Odessa.

According to OPD, Sawyer does not have a vehicle and is frequently seen walking.

She is approximately 5′5″ tall, weighs approximately 130 pounds, and has blonde hair and blue eyes.
