UPDATE: Ector County man charged with capital murder in death of a child

ODESSA, Texas (KOSA) -An Ector County man has been charged for capital murder in the death of his stepdaughter.

Edward Lira was out on bond after being charged with injury to a child After during the initial arrest on Friday, December 3rd, 2021, he was again arrested by Ector County Sheriff’s Office deputies on Wednesday, December 15th on a capital murder warrant.

Lira is currently being held at the Ector County Detention Center.

On Thursday, Dec. 2, 2021, Ector County Sheriff’s Office received a call from Medical Center Hospital about a 10-month old female in critical condition.

The child was taken to the hospital from the address of 11343 W. Kassnar after reports of an unresponsive child. At the time the injuries happened, the child, along with another two-year-old female, were in the custody of the stepfather.

The child was unconscious and in the process of being airlifted to University Medical Center in Lubbock with injuries, which medical personnel said indicated possible abuse. Ector County Sheriff’s Office responded to the location and began a criminal investigation.

During the course of the investigation, the stepfather of the injured child was identified as Edward Lira. After an interview process, it was determined Lira was the only person in care and custody of both children at the time of the injuries and was responsible for the injuries the child had sustained.
